Trish Rainone knows a thing or two about roommates.
And just how bad living with some people can be.
The Sault Ste. Marie native has lived under the same roof with a total of 17 others at six different addresses since moving to Toronto in early 2013. That’s life in the big city when cash is tight and film projects can take Rainone out of town.
Most of her relationships with roommates “have been good.”
Rainone finds “people keep to themselves” in a home, but have a tendency to “always” be around and use her things when she’s just living with one other person.
“There’s just something funny, I think, about moving in with someone and then discovering things about them that you just really didn’t want to discover,” said the actress during a telephone interview with The Sault Star. “When you put yourself under a roof with someone else you have no idea what you’re getting into sometimes. It’s kind of scary.”
Rainone’s experiences with those roomies are helping inspire a 10-episode web series she wants to shoot this fall with creative partner Katie Uhlmann (Katie Chats, Archon Defender).
“Roommates definitely provided a lot of inspiration,” she said.
The two women started talking about the pitfalls of dating, and having roommates, at a mutual friend’s birthday party in January. The pair clicked. They exchanged email addresses and phone numbers. They started work on My Roommate’s an Escort, an “off-kilter, dark comedy,” within a week.
